All efforts to come together to forge a totalizing body eventually collapse upon themselves; the act of collection, curation, and compilation documents a number of individual parts that function independently. It would be difficult to force these modules into a closed, organic system, to coerce them into working under a grand unifying scheme. We do live in an age of partial objects, and it appears that all perceived totalities are accidental, an all-encompassing summary of everything is futile, for songs, parts of songs, individual notes are all self-contained, as they construct their own systems, produce their own unique effects and expressions. The Buwanbuwan Collective’s 3K Compilation does not function as an echo chamber or a hall of funhouse mirrors distorting a singular entity; it is a celebration of difference, for it is not just one body standing within the structure but a multitude. It is an archive of the here and the now, a schizogenic, schizophonic representation of a present filled with vitality, constructed by numerous voices speaking to and from the innumerable centers of culture.

Buwan-Buwan is a traditional Filipino game that enacts the lunar eclipse. Players draw a circle on the ground representing the moon, and must stay inside this circle. Meanwhile, one player acts as the Bakunawa, the mythical giant sea serpent who would eat the moon: he may not enter the circle, but must touch another player who is inside it in order to switch places.
