The box as an object is inert, endlessly emptying itself of meaning; it is an object that obstructs other objects. It is a veil, a screen, an obstacle. As an image, however, it connects to the idea of an inside and an outside, its content and its surroundings, one that operates within a threefold timeframe. Its contents, in and out of storage, are filtered through the lenses of the past, the present, and the future; what is inside is subject to past and present curiosity and the frisson of the immediate future. spaaawn’s BOXES are both open and sealed, both retrospective and forward-looking, contemplating both outward form and inward content. BOXES folds time upon itself, so all viewpoints overlap, suffusing the deceptive blankness of the box with mystery, and enshrouding its hidden ideas and emotions in a meticulously designed packages.

Buwan-Buwan is a traditional Filipino game that enacts the lunar eclipse. Players draw a circle on the ground representing the moon, and must stay inside this circle. Meanwhile, one player acts as the Bakunawa, the mythical giant sea serpent who would eat the moon: he may not enter the circle, but must touch another player who is inside it in order to switch places.
